EXPO 2015
This is the most important project for the Lombardy road network in terms of road infrastructures, connecting the exhibition area to main roads (A4 Turin-Venice and A8 Lakes’ motorway) and other secondary roads. The project aims to create a full integration of Expo 2015 exhibition centre with the local area and to guarantee easy access to the site.

Summing up the most important works are represented by three bridges: the Lakes Viaduct (200m of total span with a 80m central span), the Expo West and Expo East viaducts (380m of total span each) and the Cascina Merlata Tunnel (about 1km).
But the “ Expo Gateway” represents much more; the project, signed by Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel, is the symbol of Expo 2015, the real land mark dominating the exhibition area, with the use, among other things, of special fluoride paints studied by Jorrit Tornquist to give a special luminescent effect to the arches both during the day and especially at night. The bridge, or rather the sequence of bridges, will be the only sign reshaping the area
A sequence of non-aligned arches totalling an approximate 600 m in length (1 suspended arch bridge, crossing over the A4; 1 stranded arch bridge, crossing over the A8; 1 aesthetic arch) in a project characterised by its lightness and harmony.
Besides the aesthetic-architectural value, we must not underestimate the technical-design features that have represented the winning aspects of the proposal; the application of innovative methods, solutions and technologies; solutions with low environmental impact; quality of materials; effectiveness of organisational safety systems; etc…
